Wine education is Peter’s greatest passion after wine itself. No matter what your level of wine tasting experience, Peter has an educational course, workshop or tasting to stimulate and expand your wine knowledge.
His Introductory Wine Appreciation courses are attended by a diverse group of adults - ranging from complete wine novices to seasoned “wineheads”. For some it's their first formal wine tuition, for others a ‘refresher’ course to keep up to date with new varieties, regions and makers. Peter is highly regarded within the wine industry, so most courses and tastings include hospitality and wine industry professionals keen to learn from the “master”. Consumers often attend Peter’s courses and workshops on the recommendation by liquor retailers.
The four week Introductory Course aims to help consumers discover taste and texture with a brief outline of how wine is made. Over 40 wines are tasted, focusing on Australia’s classic white and red wines along with new and emerging grape varieties and a quick snapshot of sparkling wines.
The one day Saturday Course is an abridged version of the four week course with 16 wines tasted on the day. This is a more informal course - great for beginners and groups of friends who wish to learn while having fun.
A maximum of 16 attendees ensures the sessions are focused and personal. A selection of delicious local and imported cheeses from Simon Johnson’s Fromagerie is provided with fresh sourdough bread.
Peter’s ongoing series of Workshops and Tastings assume participants have some wine knowledge and tasting experience. Themes are varied with some focussed on specific grape varieties or regions. Others feature ground breaking wine styles or short educational courses on traditional European wine producing countries such as France, Spain and Italy.
Informal Tastings are self-pour and self-paced opportunities to discover lifestyle wines – recent themes include Fashionable Drinking, Summer Wines, and Hidden Gems. No prior wine education or tasting experience is required, these informal tastings provide the perfect introduction to Peter and the Australian Wine Education Centre.
These Courses and Tastings are held at the Australian Wine Education Centre, in Pyrmont - Peter’s light, airy and stylish tasting room.
